The Novotny Glass Museum offers a collection of modern glass art as well as a unique possibility to have a look into the Novotny Glass Studio. The museum aims to deepen the cultural life with help of a permanent exhibition, short-time exhibitions, public lectures and a library full of books about glass.
The permanent exhibition consists mainly of the private collection of a world known glass master and the owner of the museum Petr Novotný. Here you can find works of leading Czech glass designers such as René and Miluše Roubíček, Jiří Šuhájek, Bořek Šípek or of the young generation e. g. Martin Janecký. Among the foreign artists we can name Dale Chihuly /USA/, James Mongrain /USA/ or Michael Behrens /Germany/. There’s also a lot of famous trophies and awards for events such as the cycling race of Tour de France, the Prague International Marathon or Thalia, the award given to the leading Czech artists from the theater, opera or ballet community.
In 2015, the Museum was expanded with an additional floor and a unique rooftop designed by engineer architect Leoš Bogar. On the occasion of the IGS 2015, an exhibition of objects of the Nový Bor’s glassmaker symposia from 1982 to the present was opened under the title “IGS History”. The pieces came as a loan from Josef Viewegh’s Foundation of Glassworks František in Sázava.
